California Police Department Unveils First Tesla Cybertruck Patrol Car in the Nation

Earlier this year, UP.FIT — a division of Unplugged Performance — debuted the world’s first Tesla Cybertruck police vehicle. Now, Calfornia’s Irvine Police Department has enlisted UP.FIT to reveal the first Tesla Cybertruck patrol car in the nation.

Taking to social media to reveal the truck earlier this week, the splashy video sees the Irvine Police Department’ pricey $153,175.03 USD investment. In their statement, the department wrote, “The truck will support our Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program and community outreach efforts. While the fully equipped vehicle won’t be used as a patrol car, it can respond to emergencies and assist the community when needed. For over three decades, our DARE officers have driven attention-grabbing and one-of-a-kind vehicles that never fail to turn heads and excite students. IPD believes in the continual education of students and is one of only two DARE programs in the entire state.” It added, “IPD passionately seeks unique and innovative ways to connect with our community and the youth of Irvine.”

The car was debuted in a minute long video that shows the vehicle driving alone at night with lights flashing and dramatic music in the background. Spokesperson Sgt. Karie Davies said, “The Cybertruck is a replacement for another DARE vehicle that has reached its shelf life.” The decision to add the Cybertruck to its fleet comes after news of the car being recalled for the fifth time this year. Take a closer look at the nation’s first in-use Tesla Cybertruck police car.
