Set several decades after the events of the first film, the sequel will explore a post-apocalyptic world where nature has reclaimed urban landscapes, and humanity is no longer the dominant species. Screenwriter Akiva Goldsman has indicated that the film will draw inspiration from the HBO series The Last of Us, focusing on themes of survival and the evolution of civilization in the absence of humans. Michael B. Jordan joins the cast in an undisclosed role, and both he and Will Smith will serve as producers. The film aims to adhere more closely to Richard Matheson’s original 1954 novel, delving into the complexities of coexistence between humans and the infected.
