2025 Tesla Model 3 and Model Y RWD to Feature New Battery Pack: 10% Longer Range

Recent reports have surfaced regarding exciting updates from Tesla, specifically concerning the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) versions of the Model 3 and Model Y. The information comes from Twitter user @Julien, known for frequently sharing insider news about Tesla.

According to the latest leaks, Tesla is set to introduce a new battery pack, which could be “the most important battery product for Tesla in the next two years.” This new battery pack is reportedly the 2025 CATL “6M” / “E1A” model.

The upcoming battery will feature a net capacity increase of 4%, bringing it to 62.5 kWh, compared to the current model’s 60 kWh. It will utilize LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) or LMFP (Lithium Manganese Iron Phosphate) chemistry, although further details have yet to be disclosed.

Remarkably, despite the increased capacity, the new battery pack will be 1 kg lighter than its predecessor, showcasing significant advancements in weight reduction. This lightweight design is expected to enhance energy efficiency and improve DC fast charging performance.

The new battery pack will debut in the 2025 Model 3 RWD, offering a WLTP range of 520 kilometers with 19-inch wheels. Furthermore, the leak suggests that this battery may replace the previously rumored BYD blade battery in the Model Y, potentially altering the structural battery design.

If these reports hold true, this new battery pack could also be featured in the refreshed Model Y RWD set to launch next year. As more information becomes available, we will continue to monitor this developing story.
