Mark Curry, known for his role in ‘Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper,’ revealed that he contemplated suicide after suffering serious burns in an accident at his California home. The incident left him in an induced coma for three days.
He experienced severe burns over eighteen percent of his body, including his arm, back, and side, due to a falling can of spray starch that ruptured and sparked a fire. The situation was so dire that doctors had to put him in a medically-induced coma.
After waking up from the coma, Curry described the pain as excruciating, stating, “It was so bad … that pain was so excruciating that I just threw it out.”
His recovery was a long process, and he spent months at home. During this difficult time, he contemplated taking his own life by overdosing on pain medication. However, conversations with friends, especially fellow comedians like Bill Cosby and Sinbad, helped him change his mind. Curry noted, “They made me laugh, and that helped a lot.”
Curry recounted that Cosby told him to “keep my head up and be strong.” After a heartfelt conversation with Cosby, he felt encouraged and, shortly after, returned to the stage at a comedy club.
We are thankful that Curry received the support he needed during such a critical time in his life.
