Not Gohan, Only One Saiyan Has a Genetic Mutation That Makes Him Potentially Stronger Than Goku and Vegeta – Dragon Ball Theory

Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball series has been popular on the basic formula of featuring epic fights, lots of training, a gripping story, and some fan theories, that will get you hooked on the show. With rich storytelling and complex characters, featuring Saiyans and different life forms, often leading to interesting fan theories.

Broly in Dragon Ball Super: Broly

Toriyama-Sensei has given much thought to the creation of each of his characters, or else people would not have been addicted to the show for 38 long years. One of the mythic fan speculations of the show is the Genetic Mutation Theory revolves around the Saiyans. Ironically, this theory revolves not around Gohan but a new character, who made his way into the Dragon Ball canon in 2018. If the theory turns out to be true, then, he would surpass Kakarot and The Prince of All Saiyans with ease.

Major Genetic Mutation Theory of The Saiyans Keeps Dragon Ball Fans on Their Toes

A major reason for the popularity of Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball series is the fan theories that surround the show. From online forums to different social media platforms, fans do not hesitate to share their intriguing theories, interpretations, and predictions revolving around the series, sparking curiosity and insightful discussion that only fuels more creative ideas and speculations.

Broly vs Vegeta

One such theory is the Genetic Mutation of the Saiyans, as a fan shared his meaningful insight on r/dragonball, a subreddit dedicated to discussing everything and anything related to the Shonen Series. One such post revolved around Broly, who made his way into Dragon Ball canon in 2018, where a fan shared their theory on how they believe the character has a genetic mutation, that is his ki never depletes when in battle.

It is a known Saiyan trait that they keep getting stronger and stronger every time they fight and become a better version of themselves when they pull themselves back from the gates of death. The fan said,

“My headcanon is, Broly has a genetic mutation where his ki keeps rising in battle. A Saiyan trait is getting stronger every time they fight, and getting stronger every time they recover from near death. There is something to do with a Saiyan’s biology that evolved over a long time in order for them to survive.”

They continued that the strong Saiyans defeat the weaker ones to pass on their genes, “somewhere along the way they evolved to increase their ki in a natural way, outside of training.” However, this is not the case with Broly because he has the same mutation but in “overdrive.” As we have witnessed, how he does not show signs of slowing down in battle, and allows his transformation into a SSJ.

Broly releasing his stored Ki to avoid exploding

However, it does not stop there because this mutation keeps increasing his ki making him look enormous, and it’s only a matter of time before he gets “so big before that ki causes him to explode.” To avoid turning into bits, Broly constantly releases this energy, because practically he has unlimited Ki.

This is the reason, Goku’s Kamehameha hurt him a lot but his limitless ki protected him, and saved him from the damage as his ki protects him. However, the drawback of the trait is that it will not work as efficiently because he would take damage.

As a result, in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, when Goku’s power level was above him, he could not release much of this ki, because he started taking a lot of damage. As a result, it was only a matter of time, before his power got drained and he was defeated by the Z-Fighters.

During Weekly Shonen Jump’s 50th Anniversary, several mangakas were present, and Toriyama-Sensei was also present, where he opened up about the series’ journey via Skull Knight. The mangaka shared how he could barely “move my hands” due to “inflamed tendons.” He said,

“Torishima-san said I had to do two chapters in one week or I’d be too late. I was exhausted from having just finished some manga, so I replied that I could barely move my hands due to inflamed tendons. He told me to try writing my name, and I said, “Of course I can write my name!”

He added,

“If you can write your name, then you can draw manga!” what kind of logic is that?! [laughs].”

Though Akira Toriyama, shared it as a joke it brings out the dark side of the manga industry, where immense pressure is put on the artist to get the maximum results out of them.
