One Piece: The Possible Location of Uranus, Explained

The Ancient Weapons in One Piece are some of the scariest, but also extremely fascinating, aspects of the world. Said to have been constructed over 800 years ago and playing an active role in the Great War that took place during the Void Century, these 3 Superweapons proved to have unparalleled destructive capabilities, enough for the World Government to see them as such massive threats that they banned any research into the Void Century altogether.

Uranus is one of these weapons. Despite all 3 being incredibly mysterious, the least is known about Uranus, since it is the one that has been the least talked about in One Piece. First mentioned in Robin’s private conversation with King Neptune, the speculation and theories surrounding this weapon have run rampant, so let’s take a look at a possible place where Uranus may be!

A Possible Location For Uranus

One of the biggest things that makes Eiichiro Oda such a beloved and revered writer is the way he uses callbacks and details from earlier in the story to have relevance much later on. Due to this, many fans believe that, while never explicitly stated, the location of Uranus could be in Skypiea, the mythic land in the sky that the Straw Hats visited very early on in their journey across the Grand Line.

Since Oda is known to use storytelling elements and themes from various real-world myths, religions, and legends, many believe that the key to finding out about Uranus lies in the very names of the Superweapons themselves! All 3 of these weapons are named after deities from Greco-Roman mythology; Pluton, Poseidon, and Uranus, and the details revealed about the previous 2 may give a hint as to the nature of Uranus as well.

Firstly, a small detail was noted by Zoro when first hearing about Fishman Island. Fishman Island, Marijoa, and Skypiea all share a strange relationship, with Marijoa being exactly 30,000 feet above Fishman Island and Skypiea being exactly 30,000 feet above Marijoa. While many regard this as a throwaway line, it should be noted that Oda is a writer who pays an incredible amount of detail to the small intricacies of the story that fans don’t initially think about, so this might be a greater hint than most would think.

Moving on, what fans know about the Pluton is that it was some sort of ship that had the power to easily destroy an entire island with just a single shot. This corresponds with its name, as Pluto was the Roman counterpart to the Greek God Hades, who ruled over the Underworld. Since Pluton was confirmed to be a ship, it exists on the surface of the world, which is essentially the ground.

Pluton. It’s said a single blast from it can destroy an entire island without leaving a trace.

Moreover, Poseidon is the next Superweapon, of whom we also know the most about. Just like with Pluton, this weapon also corresponds with a Greek deity named Poseidon, who was the God of the sea. Following the trend, this Ancient Weapon is found on Fishman Island and is revealed to be a power that can control the Sea Kings and this power has manifested itself in the body of the Mermaid Princess, Shirahoshi, perfectly fitting with the theme of these weapons as it exists under the water.

Now, with both the ground and water aspects covered, only the sky itself remains. Uncoincidentally, Uranus is the name of the Roman God of the sky! This theory posits that, staying with the theme of the previously mentioned weapons, Uranus exists somewhere in the sky and its powers are somehow related to it as well, which is an aspect that definitely sounds like something Oda would do.

Three Ancient Weapons bearing the names of Gods. Pluton, Uranus, and Poseidon.

This theory is further bolstered by the fact that there are, in fact, a few islands that exist in the sky, chief of which is Skypiea. Skypiea is a land filled with mystery and even has traces of the ancient Great Kingdom with the inclusion of Shandora. Due to this, many believe that Uranus resides here, and it may even just be what lets it float in the sky in the first place!

Furthermore, in Roman mythology, Uranus is the king of all the Gods and resides in the heavens. This further supports the Skypiea theory, as one of the main entry points to get onto the island is called ‘Heaven’s Gate’ and is policed by the authority of the ruler of the kingdom. Many theories even state that Enel’s flying ship, the Ark Maxim, was made as an imitation of Uranus itself!
