Saw XI: A Chilling Continuation of the Iconic Franchise
The Saw franchise has terrified and enthralled audiences for over two decades, and the highly anticipated Saw XI, set to release in 2025, promises to deliver another heart-pounding installment. Picking up several years after the events of Saw X, this latest chapter delves deeper into the dark and twisted mind of the notorious Jigsaw Killer, whose legacy continues to haunt the lives of those left in his wake.
Directed by up-and-coming horror prodigy, Evelyn Ramirez, Saw XI follows a new set of unsuspecting victims, each forced to confront their deepest fears and darkest secrets through a series of elaborate and merciless traps. As the body count rises, the audience is taken on a suspenseful journey filled with shocking twists, gruesome set pieces, and a relentless game of cat and mouse between the captives and their enigmatic captor.
With a talented ensemble cast, including rising stars Liam Nguyen and Ava Hernandez, Saw XI promises to push the boundaries of the franchise, delving deeper into the psychological torment that has become the series’ hallmark. Fans of the Saw universe can expect the same intense, nerve-wracking thrills that have made this one of the most iconic horror franchises of the modern era, while newcomers will be drawn into a world of terror and moral ambiguity that will leave them questioning the very nature of survival.

Saw XI release date, cast, plot and everything you need to know
John Kramer’s return has been delayed.
Saw 11Â was set to come out this September, but we have bad news for fans as the new movie has been delayed for an entire year.
The news was announced by Billy the Puppet in a video released on April 10, 2024, confirming the release date for September 2025.
“Hello to all my loyal devotees. I want to play a game. You’ve all anticipated my return, asking when I may appear before you once more. But anticipation is a funny thing,” the terrifying puppet said.
“My associates and I are hard at work refining a cacophony of new traps to razor-sharp perfection. You should expect nothing less. These traps will be made all the better with just a little time. The clock is ticking. Will you play my waiting game? Your time starts now.”
Saw X landed the highest Rotten Tomatoes rating for the series by some distance, becoming the first-ever Saw movie to get a Fresh rating. It then went on to gross $111.8 million from a reported budget of only $13 million.
It’s no surprise that Lionsgate moved quickly to confirm Saw XI in December 2023, even if the initial release date has now been changed.
But what can we expect from the return of Jigsaw? Here’s everything you need to know about Saw XI.

As mentioned above, Saw XI will now be released in cinemas on September 26, 2025, a year-long delay from the original date of September 27, 2024.
Filming has yet to start on the new movie and we don’t yet know when the movie will start production. It might not be until later this year now due to the release date change.
LionsgateSaw 11 cast: Who’s coming back for Saw XI?
We don’t have any confirmed cast returns for Saw XI, but we can make some educated guesses.
Whether the movie continues on directly from Saw X or not (more on that in a bit), Tobin Bell will reprise his role as John Kramer. He’s appeared in every single Saw movie, bar Spiral, so it’d be a major surprise to not see him.
After her excellent return in Saw X, we’d hope to see more of Shawnee Smith as Amanda Young and, if Saw 11 continues the story from the previous movie, Synnøve Macody Lund could also return as Cecilia Pederson.
Saw X‘s credit scene also marked a series return for Costas Mandylor as Detective Mark Hoffman, so he might also be back if the new movie is still set in the past.

Behind the scenes, we know that Kevin Greutert is returning as director. He’s either edited or directed every single Saw movie, bar Spiral, so it makes total sense that he’s back.

We also know that we can expect a new writer or writing team as Josh Stolberg â who co-wrote Saw X, as well as Jigsaw and Spiral, with Peter Goldfinger â has confirmed he won’t be back.
“Pete and I are sitting this chapter out. Very excited to see this one as a fan of the franchise. I think people will be pleased with the team,” Stolberg wrote on X/Twitter.
We don’t know who’s taking over to write the new movie though.
LionsgateSaw 11 plot: What will Saw XI be about?
While every Saw movie has continued the convoluted timeline with retcons and revelations, there has yet to be a direct sequel for any of the Saw movies released to date, but Saw XI could break this tradition.
Although we don’t know officially what the new movie will be about, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Saw XI continue on directly from Saw X which, if you need reminding, took place between the first two Saw movies.
Saw X took place around three weeks after the first Saw movie, but it wasn’t clear how long it took place before Saw II. There was then a six-month gap between the events of Saw II and Saw III, which started with John Kramer bedridden and in a bad way.
There’s still space for Saw XI to fit chronologically before or after Saw II, and it could see Cecilia â who survived the final trap, but was left trapped in the room at the end of Saw X â come back for revenge.

That would certainly make for a different kind of Saw movie where John Kramer is being hunted, but nothing has been confirmed yet. It could also be a standalone Saw story set in the past or in the future long after Kramer’s death.
Talking in December 2023 shortly after Saw XI was confirmed, producer Oren Koules hinted that it could be a direct continuation.

“Cecilia is still alive and Tobin and Shawnee are in a foreign country still. So that, to me, would be the natural place to take at least the next one,” he told SFX, but stopped short of confirming this is where the new movie is set.
Hopefully once filming starts, we’ll get the first confirmed plot details for Saw XI, so watch this space.
LionsgateSaw 11 trailer: Any Saw XI footage yet?
Unfortunately not. With filming not even started yet, it’ll be a while until we see the first footage of Saw XI.
The first Saw X trailer arrived in late July 2023, only two months before the movie’s release in late September, so expect a similar timeline for the new movie.
Saw XIÂ will be released in cinemas on September 26, 2025.
