Missy Elliott celebrated her birthday with a dance party in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday, one night before the hip-hop star opened a two-night stand at Crypto.com Arena on her first-ever headlining tour.
Party on the Plaza: An Out of This World Experience was a free public event to teach fans the moves to a new dance challenge Elliott has crafted for her tour. Her tour dancers were on hand to demonstrate the choreography.

In addition, it was a party to mark Elliott’s 53rd birthday on July 1, with R&B singer Ciara, one of the opening acts on Elliott’s tour, leading the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday” to her.

DJs played for the dancers and hip-hop star Sandra Denton – Pepa in Salt-N-Pepa – was also on hand before a drone light show created a spaceship in the sky over Jerry Moss Plaza at The Music Center to cap it all off.
