JB32 tipped his hat to SMB and offered no excuses after suffering what could be the worst loss of his career

JUSTIN Brownlee was humble enough and acknowledged Barangay Ginebra was beaten black and blue by San Miguel on Sunday night in what went down as the biggest loss in franchise history of the PBA’s most popular ballclub.

The three-time Best Import offered no excuses for the runaway 131-82 loss that was highlighted by the crowning of Marcio Lassiter as the newest Three Point King of the league.

“We didn’t play like we’ve been playing. Credit to them,” said Brownlee of the Beermen.

The 49-point loss snapped the Kings’ four game winning streak and ruined their outright march into the playoffs as they fell to a 5-3 record.

Asked about the severe beating, Brownlee shrugged off both his shoulders and gave out a ready smile.

“That’s what where it was, man,” said the Gilas Pilipinas naturalized player, who finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists.

At the same time, the 36-year-old Brownlee thinks it was the worst loss of his playing career.

“Probably is,” he said. “I think we didn’t lose a couple of games by late. I don’t know if it feels 49, but we lost some big games in the past to San Miguel and other teams.

“I’m not sure if that’s the biggest one. But I’m sure if it’s not, it’s gotta be close.”

For the record, PBA chief statistician Fidel Mangonon III quantified it as the biggest winning margin in San Miguel franchise history, while serving as the worst losing margin in Ginebra’s franchise history and in Tim Cone’s coaching career in the league.

It also ranks as the eighth all-time most lopsided game in the 49-year history of the league.

Brownlee again praised the Beermen for a solid game which obviously left a bitter taste in the mouth for both Cone, the Kings and their legions of fans in the country.

“Like I said, just give a lot of credit to San Miguel. They came out to play us very tough,” said the Ginebra import “They’re on their A+ game and they deserved it.”
