Scottie Thompson showcased his skills with an impressive triple-double, guiding Barangay Ginebra to a 112-98 victory over Blackwater, avenging their earlier defeat in the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup on Tuesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The former MVP contributed significantly with 21 points on an 8-of-17 shooting performance, complemented by 10 rebounds and an astounding 11 steals. This victory marked a response to their earlier 95-88 loss to the Bossing, which had initiated Blackwater’s three-game winning streak.
With this win, Ginebra improved its record to 4-2, securing a solo second place in Group B, while Blackwater’s record dipped to 3-4.
“We needed an attitude change,” stated Ginebra coach Tim Cone. “We needed to come out with higher intensity because they’ve proven to be a very strong team.” He further noted, “We didn’t have our focus during our first matchup, partly because it was George King’s first game, and we had never seen him play before.”
Thompson’s outstanding performance was complemented by resident import Justin Brownlee, who added 20 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and three blocks. Rookie RJ Abarrientos also played a key role, contributing 15 points, two boards, and three assists.
On the other hand, King continued to lead Blackwater with another strong performance, tallying 21 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists, while Troy Rosario added 18 points and seven rebounds.
