Mumbai: In a sensational turn of events, the individual who threatened Bollywood actor Salman Khan and demanded Rs 5 crore ransom, has now retracted his statement, claiming that the message was sent by mistake.

Mumbai Police had previously confirmed that a message was sent to the WhatsApp number of the traffic unit, in which the sender warned that if Salman Khan did not pay the ransom, he would face a fate worse than that of Baba Siddique, who was shot dead earlier this month.

Now, police said that the sender took a U-turn and sent a new message stating that previous message was sent by “mistake”. Police said that the sender has also apologised.

“Mumbai Traffic Police received another message from the same WhatsApp number a few days later in which the person who threatened apologized, the message sender said that this message was sent by mistake and he apologised for it,” police said.

Officials further said that sender location have been traced to Jharkhand .

Further investigation is underway, they said.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened at Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence following new death threats demanding an extortion payment of Rs 5 crore.

This threat comes in the wake of the recent murder of Nationalist Congress Party leader Baba Siddique, who was killed outside his office on October 12.

Zeeshan Siddique, the son of the deceased NCP leader, has called for justice and warned against politicizing the tragedy.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has assured the public that those responsible for such crimes will be dealt with severely.

“No one will be spared. Strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty,” Shinde stated.
