Former striker Teddy Sheringham believes that superstar Cristiano Ronaldo would receive support from coach Ruben Amorim if CR7 wants to return to Old Trafford in the latter stages of his career.
In a recent interview with Flash Score, Sheringham revealed that Ronaldo could return to Manchester United at “any time” and would be warmly welcomed.
The former Tottenham and Manchester United player shared his thoughts: “In my opinion, Cristiano Ronaldo would be very welcome back at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim, but right now he is aiming for greater and better things.”
He also believes that Ronaldo will follow in David Beckham’s footsteps after retiring, embarking on major global projects and becoming the president of a club rather than pursuing a coaching career: “I think Ronaldo will follow David Beckham with executive roles off the pitch, engaging in activities that have a significant impact worldwide.
I’m sure Ronaldo would be welcomed back at Manchester United in any role, but I don’t think he wants to be a football coach.”
During his career, Ronaldo had two spells at Manchester United, the first from 2003 to 2009 and the most recent from 2021 to 2022. However, his latest return ended on a less than positive note.
Ronaldo left Manchester United in 2022 due to a conflict with coach Erik ten Hag. Subsequently, the Portuguese superstar joined Al Nassr in December 2022 and has been playing there ever since.
Ronaldo’s contract with the Saudi Pro League team will expire in 2025. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has expressed a desire to continue playing until he reaches 1,000 career goals.
Recently, Ronaldo scored a goal to help Al Nassr defeat Al Ain 5-1 in the fourth match of the AFC Champions League Elite. He increased his career record to 908 goals after 1,249 matches. He also reached 10 goals in 14 matches across all competitions for Al Nassr.
Meanwhile, Manchester United has changed managers. After Ten Hag was sacked, the club quickly appointed Ruben Amorim. He will officially take over Manchester United starting November 11. Amorim’s debut at Old Trafford will be on November 24.
