The Platform 2 is the sequel to the 2019 Spanish sci-fi horror movie The Platform (El Hoyo), which explored a dystopian prison system with a vertical structure where food was distributed in decreasing amounts as a platform descended through the levels.
In the sequel, the plot delves deeper into the oppressive system. A mysterious new leader establishes control over the “Platform,” introducing harsher rules, including a grim punishment for eating from the wrong plate. The narrative follows a new resident who becomes part of a resistance to challenge the system’s cruelty and the twisted feeding mechanism. The film continues to examine themes of survival, morality, and human behavior under extreme conditions.
Returning director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia leads the project, with a fresh cast including Milena Smit, Natalia Tena, Hovik Keuchkerian, and Óscar Jaenada. The sequel is expected to expand on the original’s chilling and thought-provoking premise. The Platform 2 is scheduled for release on Netflix in October 2024
