With fans of The Walking Dead still reeling from the latest cast departure, the show’s bosses are opening up about the moment Carl Grimes became a marked man.
The shocking midseason finale saw a serious case of “chat shit get bit” when Carl revealed that a walker had sunk its teeth into him among all the bullets and bloodshed of the ‘All Out War’ saga. While the original cast member hasn’t kicked the bucket just yet, it is only a matter of time.
After initially looking like the bite took place off-screen, showrunner Scott Gimple spoke to EW to tell eagle-eyed fans that we actually did see the moment in question (just not when we might have expected it).

“It happened in a moment that was on screen. We didn’t see the absolute bite, but we saw when it happened and we even saw Carl’s reaction to it after it happened in one of the episodes that we’ve seen this season.”
Carl has found himself in a fair few scrapes recently, so maybe it is worth a rewatch of the first seven episodes of the season to see when it happened.
However, given that the first half of the series has been crawling slower than the aforementioned walkers, maybe that isn’t such a good idea.

If you were a betting man, you might guess that the lethal bite came in episode 6’s ‘The King, the Widow, and Rick’ as Carl tried to help newcomer Siddiq.
After eight years on the show and growing up alongside AMC’s zombie romp, Chandler Riggs will be waving goodbye to his time as Carl in the midseason premiere, so make the most of him while you can.
As one of the biggest departures from Robert Kirkman’s comic series of the same name, who knows how the show will go forward from here?
One thing is for sure, The Walking Dead will never be the same again.
