Garrett Morris from “Martin” and “Jamie Foxx Show,” Now 86, Was Once a Gospel Singer

Garrett Morris is an American actor and comedian best known for his work on Saturday Night Live, where he was one of the original cast members. He was the first African American cast member on the show and is remembered for his memorable characters, including Chico Escuela, a Spanish-language sportscaster, and news anchor Cliff Pincher.

Morris also had a successful career in film and television, appearing in movies such as The Anderson Tapes, Car Wash, and The Stuff, as well as TV shows such as Martin and 2 Broke Girls. In addition to his work as an actor, Morris is also an accomplished musician and singer. He began his career as a performer in the 1960s, singing with the gospel group The Voices of Inspiration and later with the soul group The Originals. Morris has also released several albums as a solo artist, including his 1998 release, Black Creole Chronicles. He has also appeared on Broadway, starring in the musicals Ain’t Supposed to Die a Natural Death and The Mighty Gents.
