Years after the apocalyptic events of the first film, John Constantine has returned to his solitary, cynical life as a supernatural exorcist and demon hunter. Still haunted by his past and tormented by visions of Hell, Constantine is drawn back into the battle between Heaven and Hell when a series of mysterious suicides occur across the world — all victims marked with ancient angelic runes. His investigation leads him to a rogue archangel named Remiel, who believes that both Heaven and Hell are corrupt and plans to tear down the balance between them to forge a new divine order on Earth — one ruled by a militant “pure light.” To do this, Remiel seeks an ancient relic: The Trumpet of God, said to awaken divine judgment and bring forth the end times. As Constantine races against time, he reluctantly teams up with Angela Dodson (Rachel Weisz), now a full-fledged psychic investigator, and seeks uneasy counsel from old enemies, including the devil himself, Lucifer (Peter Stormare), who has his own reasons for not wanting Remiel to succeed.
