10 Best Dragon Ball Super Fights, Ranked

Goku and Vegeta had many intense battles throughout the Dragon Ball Super anime, but the two Saiyans are not in every one of the series’ 10 best fights. The DBZ sequel series successfully revitalized the Dragon Ball franchise and has helped grow the series’ fanbase worldwide. While the first two arcs of the series received much criticism for their poor animation and rehashing of the two films that were released before the series aired, the following arcs contained some of the franchise’s most exciting moments and some of the best-looking anime fights that saw crowds of thousands exploding with excitement during their live broadcasts.

In 2013 the first new piece of Dragon Ball content in years was released with Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods. The first new chapter in the franchise introduced Beerus, The God of Destruction, multiple universes, and a whole new level of power for Goku and Vegeta to attain. Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue were forms that the two Saiyans gained by learning to use Divine energy, and in many of Dragon Ball Super’s top 10 fights, they would need all the power-ups they could get.

10Vegeta vs Goku Black Round 2 (Episode #63)

Vegeta was finally given a punching bag that looked like Goku, who deserved all the hate and damage he could dish out. Goku Black had gotten the upper hand in their first bout. Still, round 2 featured a sharpened and angrier version of Vegeta who delivered a relentless combo that was almost as brutal as his speech that also provided a backhanded compliment to Goku. “His body was built by a lifetime of intense battles, but you took it; it’s all secondhand…and you’ll never learn how to think like that clown!” Vegeta screams while delivering one of the Dragon Ball series’ most satisfying beatdowns.

9Master Roshi vs Universe 4 (Episode #105)

Master Roshi’s inclusion in the Tournament of Power was perplexing for viewers. The former teacher of Goku and Krillin has been far outclassed and of little use against the many threats to the earth throughout DBZ. However, episode #105 provides each of Roshi’s strengths and an emotionally potent send-off for Goku’s teacher when he defeats several of the fourth Universe’s most powerful fights. “My limitations can go straight to hell,” Roshi exclaims before putting every ounce of his strength into a final Kamehameha and blasting away his overpowered opponent while recanting the tenants of the Turtle Hermit School. As it was presented, it was a brilliant goodbye to one of the series’ oldest characters.

8Gohan vs Goku (Episode #90)

Gohan fans have seen the character evolve and shine in the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero film. However, before that, the DBZ fan-favorite didn’t receive the kind of attention that made fans happy. That changed when Goku tested Gohan for the upcoming Tournament of Power which threatened to erase their universe if they lost. To be able to fight at the Tournament of Power, Gohan finally took his martial arts training seriously and proved his capableness with a ferocious battle against his father. Gohan’s hesitation and goofy nature were completely absent in his onslaught against Goku, in a way that fans have wanted to see again since Gohan’s battle against Super Buu in DBZ.

7Super Saiyan Blue Evolved Vegeta vs God of Destruction Toppo (Episode #126)

After Vegeta unlocked a more refined and stronger Super Saiyan Blue Evolved form in his fight against Jiren, he had to test its might against Universe 11’s true candidate for its next Destroyer God: Toppo. Powering up with Destruction energy unlocked Toppo’s God of Destruction form that easily outclassed Golden Frieza and Android 17. Vegeta arrived to fight Toppo and even canceled out the God’s Hakai Destroyer Energy, which instantly vaporizes anything it touches, with his own godly power. During the fight, Vegeta surpasses the might of a Destroyer God with his own hard-earned Super Saiyan Blue energy.

6Fused Zamasu Vs Vegeto and Trunks (Episode #66)

Future Trunk’s timeline had been decimated in the Goku Black arc. The rouge Kai Zamasu sought to wipe out all mortals and the gods who created them. After a convoluted plan involving time travel and body stealing, Zamasu gained incredible powers by fusing his immortal body with Goku Black. Goku and Vegeta fused to become Vegito, who weakened the Fused Zamasu severely. However, the final win would go to Trunks and his Spirit Bomb Sword. The final attack felt earned and natural for that timeline’s surviving hero, who won with mortal energy instead of Goku and Vegeta’s God powers.

5Kefla vs Ultra Instinct Goku (Episode 115 & 116)

Fresh after Goku’s first epic battle against Jiren and unlocking Ultra Instinct, Goku was drained of energy when Universe 6’s Saiyans decided to attack. Kale and Caulifla used the Potara earrings to fuse into Kefla, and Goku almost lost in the Tournament of Power because of its results. Kefla proved to be one of the strongest characters the Tournament introduced, requiring Goku to reach his new Ultra Instinct form again. Watching Goku further test Ultra Instinct by swatting away Kefla’s attacks was satisfying, but not as much as the series’ best Kamehameha wave, which stands as one of the anime’s hypest moments.

4Mastered Ultra Instinct Goku vs Jiren (Episode #130)

Goku finally mastered his new divine Ultra Instinct form against the powered-up Jiren. The scene included an iconic score and some of the most devastating attacks in the entire Dragon Ball franchise. The already impressive Ultra Instinct form proved insufficient to defeat Universe 11’s Jiren, and it wasn’t until the silver-haired Mastered Ultra Instinct form was unlocked that Goku could put the full-powered Jiren on the backfoot. Still, only when Jiren threw a blast toward Goku’s friends in the stands that the battle saw the peak of the Saiyan’s rage, leading to one of the anime’s best-looking punches. However, the fight would only be an appetizer for the best fight in Dragon Ball Super.

3Goku vs Hit (Episode #38 – #40)

The Universe Survival Arc’s final battle between Goku and Hit managed to be one of the series’ best. Also, it reinstalled faith that the series was going to be worth veteran Dragon Ball fans’ attention. Universe 6 and 7’s strongest fighters clashed when Goku took on the ancient assassin Hit, who’d never met a target he was not able to kill easily. After Hit dealt Vegeta an embarrassing defeat, Goku fought Universe 6’s last fighter in a battle that felt like a classic Dragon Ball tournament battle.

Hit’s incredible power and speed seemed unbeatable when combined with the assassin’s time-skip ability, which allowed him to jump forward in time by fractions of a second. After watching Vegeta fight and taking on several painful attacks, Goku used his battle instincts to predict Hit’s attacks. This tactic successfully landed some blows on Hit, and for the first time in his life, Hit had to push his abilities further than he knew possible. To keep up with his opponent, Goku combined his Super Saiyan Blue form with the DBZ‘s Kaio Ken attack to multiply his godly strength and speed in one of the franchise’s most enjoyable transformations. Goku technically lost the battle but not their less impressive rematch.

2Goku vs Jiren Round 1 (Episodes #109 & #110)

Before the Tournament of Power even began, Dragon Ball Super‘s staff made Jiren seem terrifyingly strong. When he and Goku finally clashed, it was one of the most anticipated battles in recent Shonen history. The battle featured Goku cycling through each of his transformations, which proved insufficient against Universe 6’s unstoppable force: Jiren the Gray. When Goku’s punches barely caused Jiren to move, and even the Spirit Bomb failed, Goku’s unlocking of Ultra Instinct is a franchise highlight that saw the monstrous Jiren finally fight seriously.

Jiren and Goku would go on to reach higher levels of power in the Tournament of Power, but this fight was memorable because of how much the anime built up Jiren’s might. Several fighters would challenge Universe 6’s mightiest warrior. Still, it took Goku everything he had plus his newly unlocked divine form to prove that the monster was not invincible by finally breaking through Jiren attack’s to land a solid knee to the gut. Goku was then shut down by a single attack from a powered-up Jiren, but it would not be the final or the best encounter the two would have.

1Frieza, Goku, and Android 17 vs Jiren (Episode #131)

The unstoppable Jiren was the last fighter standing against Goku, Frieza, and Android 17. Despite being outnumbered, Jiren’s monstrous strength was able to overpower each of Universe 6’s fighters easily. Still, incredible combos and unlikely teamwork between Frieza and Goku surprised and delighted viewers who never expected to see the pair fighting together, let alone so effectively. The exhausted Goku’s final rush while dipping in and out of his Super Saiyan form, teaming up with Frieza to deliver Jiren’s final push, reached a height of excitement that few anime are capable of. It even caused crowds of thousands watching the episode live to lose their minds together.

Dragon Ball Super ended with that final battle of the Tournament of Power. With that battle’s combination of incredible animation, superb voice acting, and shocking twists, the series couldn’t have ended with a better fight. Watching crowds and fans react to their favorite moments from the latest Dragon Ball series proves that it was well worth bringing back. Since the anime concluded in 2018, more Dragon Ball story has been released in the movies and manga. With how beloved the anime is, it’s only a matter of time before Dragon Ball Super‘s anime returns and, with it, more incredible battles.
