In fact, their advancements were such that even Vegapunk, who is considered to be the smartest man in the world right now, does not compare to what the people of the Ancient Kingdom were capable of doing. It is because of these technological advancements that the rest of the world came to fear them, and they banded together in an attempt to erase them entirely.

That is why this Great War began and it lasted for over 100 years. The Great War that came to be in the world of One Piece long ago saw the 20 Kingdoms that are currently known as the World Government band together in an attempt to fight the influence of the Ancient Kingdom. At the same time, the people of the Ancient Kingdom started building the Ancient Weapons. However, it is highly likely that there was a traitor within the ranks of the Ancient Kingdom. This is because fans know for a fact that Uranus was somehow passed over to the people of the 20 Kings. That is how Imu is in possession of the Uranus currently, and why there is a massive hole under Enies Lobby.

Whether the people of the Ancient Kingdom utilized the power of Pluton and Poseidon or not remains unknown. With the usage of the Ancient Weapon Uranus, fans have seen some very interesting phenomena take place. The first thing that fans need to keep in mind is that the Ancient Weapon Uranus is one that can destroy the entire world. In fact, all the Ancient Weapons that Oda has introduced in the story hold the power to flatten the entire world. Pluton can vaporize islands in a single shot, Poseidon can sink the entire world into the ocean, and, above all, Uranus can also vaporize just about anything with a shot from the skies. Fans recently got to see the Ancient Weapon Uranus being used by Imu. Uranus needs a power cell, called Mother Flame, however, now that Vegapunk came about, Mother Flame could be produced, and with that, Imu was finally able to test this weapon.

The very first island that became victim to Mother Flame was none other than the Kingdom of Lulusia.

This kingdom was shot with 16 rays from the sky, and was completely vaporized. It was as if the Kingdom never existed. A hole similar to the one under Enies Lobby was created in its stead. In the following days, many earthquakes came about and the entire world felt the repercussions of this blast. The sea levels continue to rise gradually, and Oda revealed that a total elevation of 1 meter was observed because of the erasure of Lulusia. Countless islands were completely sunk, while many others were partially flooded.

When taking into consideration the fact that usage of the Uranus caused the water levels to rise, then, fans can easily put two and two together and figure out why the world of One Piece is flooded to this degree, to begin with. As such, Imu could freely flood whichever part of the world he wanted, and bear no repercussions at all.

Thankfully, it appears that Imu and those of the World Government were not able to recreate the Mother Flame, which is a power cell required for Uranus to function. It is because of this reason that no other cleansings took place. However, now, thanks to Vegapunk, they have Mother Flame once again, or at least the potential to obtain it. That is why the World Government can go for another Great Cleansing and sink the world of One Piece even further.
