Virgil van Dijk gives Liverpool fans a glimpse of his recovery from serious knee injury with workout video

Virgil van Dijk has posted a video on social media showing just how determined he is to feature again for Liverpool this season, despite Jurgen Klopp saying it would be a ‘miracle’.

The Dutch defender has been out since October 17 after he damaged his anterior cruciate ligament against Everton following an awful tackle by Jordan Pickford.

Van Dijk has been rehabilitating in Dubai since Christmas, where he has been working with a personal trainer to help him get back to full fitness.

Van Dijk is determined make a return this season although that appears highly unlikely

In a progress update on Twitter, the Dutch international posted a video of himself working out in the gym before working on his close control on the football pitch.

It comes less than 24 hours after Liverpool boss Klopp said it would be a ‘miracle’ if Van Dijk was to play for him again this season.

Following suggestions that the 29-year-old could return to action in April, Klopp said: ‘I don’t know where these things are coming from.

Jurgen Klopp admitted on Tuesday that it would be a ‘miracle’ to see him back this season

‘No doctor really told me that there is a chance for Virgil to play in this season again. I don’t want to say that is absolutely impossible but it is not likely.

‘We don’t have to discuss these things really. If we have space, we will put them all on (the squad list) even when all the medical people tell us there is no chance. We put them on because we believe in miracles from time to time.

‘But if there is no place then we have to consider these type of things and say the chances are not too big so we have to make a decision. But if they are on the list then it is only because we hope for nearly a miracle. That is it.’

Van Dijk has been forced to watch from the stands since suffering his injury on October 17

Klopp moved on transfer deadline day on Monday to sign central defenders Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies to help plug the gaps in his injury-hit defence.

Joel Matip joined Van Dijk and Joe Gomez on the sidelines after sustaining an injury during last Thursday’s victory over Tottenham.

Van Dijk has been an avid cheerleader for Klopp’s side for most of the season with the defender reveling in the joy of the 3-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He quote tweeted captain Jordan Henderson’s post after the win, which the midfielder captioned: ‘A brilliant away win. Strength and character. #YNWA.’
