Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment has signed a three-year co-production deal for TV entertainment shows with China’s Canxing Production.
Syco and Canxing, the production division of Star China, will co-develop TV formats for China, which will then be sold worldwide.
The pact followed a four-day creative conference between Syco’s global head of television Nigel Hall and head of international George Levendis with Jin Lei, CEO of Canxing Production and Star China’s chief director, and Iris Xia, Star China’s deputy general manager.
Star China’s chief executive Tian Ming said: “This is the first time Canxing/Star China has entered into such a major collaborative deal with a company outside of China and we are proud to partner with such a prestigious organization as Syco.”
Canxing produces talent shows for the Chinese market such as “Sing! China,” and “So You Think You Can Dance.”
Syco, which is a joint venture between Cowell and Sony Music, co-produces “Got Talent” and “The X Factor” with FremantleMedia.
