Darwin Nunez has national media raving after Uruguay goal in Copa America

Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez was on target once again for Uruguay in the Copa America on Thursday – as he netted his seventh goal in as many games for his country

Darwin Nunez is on fire for Uruguay, netting in his seventh consecutive international match.

The Liverpool ace was instrumental in Uruguay’s thumping 5-0 victory over Bolivia on Thursday, securing its spot in the Copa America quarter-finals. Nunez, who also scored against Panama, is set to continue his scoring spree if he plays against the USA next Tuesday.

Back home, the Uruguayan press are singing praises for the Reds’ No. 9 following his latest performance. El Observador awarded Nunez an eight out of ten, stating: “Another that performed tremendously. He converted in his seventh consecutive game and even missed some more situations.”

Echoing this sentiment, El Pais added: “Incisive, dangerous and putting a lot of pressure on the defenders. He had the chances to score, but he couldn’t take advantage of them. Of course, perhaps the most difficult of all he ended up taking advantage of with a great left-footed shot that beat the rival goalkeeper.”

La Diaria said: “Always a goalscorer. He is famous for putting it in. He missed one in the first minute, in the second he barely missed, the third was pin and green, to collect. If he doesn’t make them he creates them, and if he doesn’t make them or create them, he runs after all the defenders so they don’t play in peace.”

ESPN concluded their analysis of Nunez’s performance by saying: “Darwin Nunez seems to have no limits. The Liverpool forward once again showed his face for Uruguay. For the Celeste’s second game in the Copa America , the player from Artiguan scored the second goal of the win against Bolivia.

“The attacker assumed with personality the role of replacing the top scorer in the history of Uruguay, Luis Suarez, and did so without complexes, even wearing his number 9 shirt. Darwin, who has scored goals for the Celeste in seven consecutive matches, equalling Hector Scarone’s historic record, began to rub shoulders with the top scorers in the history of the national team.”
