VON Pessumal just scored a double gold.
Other than playing for the Gilas Pilipinas team that retained the basketball crown in the last Southeast Asian Games recently, Pessumal was also a proud boyfriend as long-time partner Laura Lehmann was crowned last Sunday as Ms. World-Philippines.
The San Miguel rookie was at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on the night Laura was hailed as among the most beautiful Filipinas in the country today.
Although a bit nervous, Pessumal said he hardly had doubts the love of his life would win.
“I expected her to win because she had experience na before,” said Pessumal before the San Miguel-Rain or Shine PBA Governors Cup game at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.
“I know she would do well because she had experience before, and she’s really good in answering questions.”
Lehmann was first runner-up during the 2014 Bb. Pilipinas, was a celebrated model, courtside reporter, television host, and athlete.
Pessumal actually watched the coronation night with his former teammates at Ateneo, where his romance with Laura began. Lehmann was former courtside reporter for the Blue Eagles in the UAAP.
“I was with my Ateneo teammates because she was our courtside reporter before so we supported her,” the Gilas cadet gunner related.
Laura need not get the blessing of Von in joining the contest, because as he explained, “it’s her job, it’s her career.”
“So whatever she does, support lang ako,” said the former Ateneo stalwart.
And in what way did he support her?
“I let her do her own thing,” said Pessumal. “Hindi ko hiningi yung time niya because I know she’s focused on winning the crown.”
“And I’m glad that she won,” he added. “She deserves it.”
