One Piece: Oda Just Killed Off A Shocking Major Character

One Piece finally returned after an incredibly long break this week, and Oda made sure that he started the new arc with a bang. It is safe to say that the latest chapter of One Piece has been spectacular, and one full of shocking twists and turns. Fans rarely expect Oda to kill off characters at the beginning of a story arc. In fact, fans rarely expect Oda to kill off characters at all, because he has previously spoken about his dislike for this particular way of writing.

One can see why as well. Oda’s story is far more emphatic even though there are not too many deaths there. Now, however, Oda has completely flipped the script In the Final Saga, and already, a lot of important characters have fallen. This just goes to show that the intensity and the stakes in this arc are higher than ever before, and One Piece chapter 1125 sees that continue. Much to the surprise of the fans, a major character who was recently fleshed out in the story, Saint Jaygarcia Saturn, has officially died and he did so in the most horrific of manners.

How Saint Jaygarcia Saturn Failed On Egghead

Saturn Couldn’t Stop Vegapunk’s Message

Saturn Let Luffy Escape

The death of Saint Jaygarcia Saturn came due to his failure on Egghead Island. Fans saw Saturn being sent by the government to Egghead simply because he was the Warrior God of Science and Defense. Of course, under his jurisdiction, everything science-related needs to be dealt with. Given that Vegapunk was a scientist, it made perfect sense for them to send an Elder. Now, one might wonder as to why an Elder was sent in the first place when they have powerful Admirals. The reason behind this was Vegapunk having powerful seraphims around him which he could have used against an Admiral of the Navy. When it comes to an Elder, however, the seraphims would be useless because they are the highest authority and their command hierarchy is even above that of Vegapunk himself.

Nika has finally emerged! There are things on this island that must be put an end to. – Saturn

Essentially, any order by the Elders would override any order from Vegapunk and turn the Seraphims against him. Furthermore, this would also ensure that they are safe for usage in the future as well. That is precisely why an Elder, and specifically Saint Jaygarcia Saturn was sent to this island, and he had multiple goals.

Killing Vegapunk and All The 6 Satellites For Studying the Poneglyphs

Saturn’s biggest goal on Egghead Island was to kill Vegapunk. He wanted this scientist dead because of his recent study of the Poneglyphs. Anyone who dares to study the Poneglyphs must meet their end, as is the policy of the World Government. This is a taboo act, and, because of that, Vegapunk needed to be ended. Because of the previous failures of the Cipher Pol, Saturn took it upon himself to put an end to Vegapunk’s force and he certainly did try his best to do that.

When Saturn arrived on Egghead, he was quick to injure Vegapunk. He stabbed him directly through the chest, and left him for dead. At this point, Vegapunk was not dead, however. Shortly afterwards, Kizaru finished the job, and Vegapunk did die. His remaining satellites fell one by one, with York having sided with the World Government. The only one who ended up surviving was Lilith, who escaped with the Straw Hat Pirates. This was a major failure on the part of Saturn, even though he did manage to kill most of the Vegapunks.

Killing Bonney And Kuma

Another target Saturn set for himself on Egghead Island was to eradicate Kuma and Bonney. Bonney had already chosen to stage an uprising against the World Government. After she found out what Saturn had done to her mother, she was obviously going to rebel and she certainly did. Bonney found her true powers in this arc and took to using Gear 5 against Saturn and the other Elders as well, which was certainly very exciting to see. Kuma, on the other hand, was the last living descendant of the Buccaneer race.

Given that the Buccaneers are destined to be slaves in the eyes of the World Government, and the fact that he had struck a deal with Saturn, Kuma needed to be killed here. Saturn swore to kill Kuma and Bonney, but he failed to kill either of them, thanks to Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates.

Killing Luffy

Saturn also got to see Nika in the flesh in the Egghead Island Arc, and once again, he set another target for himself, and this time, it was to eliminate Luffy. Unfortunately for him, he couldn’t even graze Luffy properly in battle. In fact, Saturn was completely overwhelmed by Luffy in terms of power, and the only saving grace he had was the fact that he had immortality up his sleeve and he could regenerate from all the damage that Luffy dealt to him. Had it not been for that, Saturn would’ve been dealt with by the Straw Hat Pirate and it is safe to say that this was a major failure on his part as well.

Imu Destroys Saint Saturn in One Piece 1125

In One Piece chapter 1125, fans saw a rather shocking turn of events. Saint Jaygarcia Saturn, who was seen around Egghead Island, met his end after Imu completely obliterated him. Fans clearly saw a giant circle with black flames surrounding it, and somehow, Saturn completely melted away and was begging him for forgiveness. Of course, for Imu, there was no room for forgiveness or mercy and essentially, Saturn was completely destroyed. With the death of Saturn, a power vacuum was created within the ranks of the Five Elders, which meant that a new Elder was soon going to be appointed. This appointment was later revealed to be none other than the leader of the God’s Knights, Saint Garling Figarland, who fans also know to be Shanks’s very own father.

Saturn, why did you let Joy Boy escape? – Imu

More importantly, fans were utterly stunned by the way Oda killed off Saturn. For one, this is a major character death in One Piece, and, secondly, it is a very gruesome way for anyone to die. This just goes to show that the intensity of the Final Saga is beyond anything that fans can comprehend and that it is going to get even more brutal from here onwards. It also builds up Imu as an even more exciting antagonist, and fans cannot wait to see what they have in store for them. Thankfully, One Piece is going to continue for the next few weeks, and fans will most definitely get to see more exciting developments in the upcoming chapters as the story progresses further.
