The Unbelievable Reason Salman Khan Joined ‘Phir Milenge’ for Only Re 1 After Bollywood Turned It Down

The producer of the 2004 film Phir Milenge recently revealed that Salman Khan was the only Bollywood actor who agreed to play an HIV-positive character in the film. The filmmaker also mentioned that Salman charged only Re 1 for his role.

In 2004, Salman Khan, Shilpa Shetty, and Abhishek Bachchan came together for Revathi’s drama Phir Milenge. The film focused on HIV/AIDS and aimed to spread awareness about the disease. At that time, the sensitive subject was still considered taboo, and many actors had refused to play an HIV-positive character onscreen. However, Salman Khan agreed to take on the role, charging only Re 1 for his performance.

Phir Milenge Producer On Salman Khan Saying Yes“Salman Khan charged Re 1 for the movie and in the climax he actually dies. AIDS ke topic pe awareness create karna pure Hindustan ki population ke liye, particularly youth ke liye (We had to create awareness on the topic of AIDS for the whole India, particularly the youth)…But I ultimately realised that cinema is a mirror of society and is also the ultimate heartbeat of every Indian. Us waqt aur ab bhi sabse bada youth icon Bollywood me – Salman Khan (Even then and today Salman Khan is the biggest youth icon of Bollywood). But imagine convincing a Salman Khan to do a movie revolving around the cause of AIDS when he is actually the Rambo, Terminator and the Superman of India,” producer Shailendra Singh said in a video on Instagram.

He added, “Lead actor of the film gets HIV and then dies in the climax. That is the plotline for the lead actor. The whole industry of Bollywood said no. That is the day I called Salman Khan. Salman dies in the climax of HIV, obviously his fans were not happy. But the message got across the nation. Because of being such an intense film, it came not only on cinema but satellite cable, everywhere. So the propaganda happened.

Fans lauded Salman for making a bold choice. “Salman Khan is different. He is just different. He is built different,” commented a user. Another wrote, “That’s why he is called the Salman Khan.”

Currently, the superstar is working on his upcoming actioner Sikandar. The movie helmed by AR Murugadoss stars Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead.Get Latest News Live on Times Now along with Breaking News and Top Headlines from Bollywood, Entertainment News and around the world.
