Wayne Rooney has raised health concerns among fans after being photographed looking rather unwell while attending Manchester United‘s recent defeat to Tottenham yesterday.
The former England and United star was seen in the stands at Old Trafford during his old club’s 3-0 defeat, appearing noticeably upset by their performance.
At 38, Rooney had been in high spirits lately, having guided Plymouth Argyle to two victories in their last four Championship matches, aiding their fight for survival.
Despite this positive streak, concerns for his well-being have emerged just three years after his retirement from playing.
A photo of Rooney, dressed in a black coat while watching United, was shared by Sky Sports on X, prompting urgent messages from fans urging him to prioritize his health.
Wayne Rooney’s appearance sparked concern as the image circulated on social media.
Now serving as the manager of Plymouth Argyle, Rooney transitioned to coaching after his retirement from football in 2021.
‘He looks really bad,’ one user commented in response to the photo.
‘Hang in there, Wayne,’ another user added, possibly in a light-hearted manner.
‘Rooney appears older than he is,’ remarked a third individual. ‘He needs to take care of himself.’
A fourth user noted, ‘He looks too old,’ while posting a crying emoji.
One concerned fan also questioned, ‘Is he suffocating? He’s all red?’ expressing genuine concern.
In 2022, Rooney admitted to having only one suit that fit him after receiving playful jabs regarding his appearance from Jamie Carragher on Sky’s Monday Night Football.
Carragher had pointed out that Rooney was still wearing the same suit, shirt, and tie combination from his Premier League Hall of Fame induction just weeks prior.
Social media users urged Rooney to focus on his self-care after witnessing him at Old Trafford.
Rooney has previously discussed his struggle to maintain a healthy weight during his playing days.
Commenting on his weight gain, Rooney replied: ‘You know what? There’s a reason for that. During the past year, I’ve gained a bit of weight. So this is actually the only suit that fits me at the moment – I’ve got to make the most of it.’
Reflecting on his battle with weight during his illustrious career, Rooney wrote in his 2012 book, My Decade In The Premier League: ‘Like most guys, I put on a few pounds after a holiday. Even a week off training can add two or three pounds.’
