The PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup semifinals will see a showdown between two powerhouse teams, Barangay Ginebra and the San Miguel Beermen, in what promises to be an electrifying best-of-7 series.
Both teams emerged from Group B during the eliminations, finishing with identical 6-4 records.
However, San Miguel earned the no. 2 seed thanks to a superior quotient, setting the stage for a much-anticipated rematch.
Ginebra and San Miguel split their meetings earlier in the conference, with the Gin Kings claiming the first game, 108-102, fueled by a career-high 51 points from their ever-reliable import, Justin Brownlee.
San Miguel, however, responded emphatically in their second encounter, delivering a crushing 131-82 victory, a franchise-record 49-point win against the Gin Kings.
In the quarterfinals, Ginebra advanced smoothly with a 3-0 sweep over Meralco, showcasing the team’s championship form.
San Miguel, on the other hand, had to fight through a grueling five-game series, eventually edging out Converge 3-2 to book a ticket to the semifinals.
