One Piece: Why Joy Boy Wanted To Pass On Ancient Weapons

One Piece: Why Joy Boy Wanted To Pass On Ancient Weapons

As has been the case over the last few chapters of One Piece, chapter 1116 also reveals some interesting bits, thanks to Vegapunk’s message. This time around, Vegapunk focused on things that fans knew somewhat and shed more light on them. For instance, one of the biggest talking points in this week’s chapter was Joy Boy and the Ancient Weapons.

Clearly, Vegapunk mentioned that Joy Boy wanted to pass down the Ancient Weapons. However, knowing the damage that these weapons do, Vegapunk started questioning whether Joy Boy and his side were truly the good ones or not. This might be confusing to the fans, however, there is certainly a massive reason as to why Joy Boy decided to do that.

The Creation Of The Ancient Weapons

The Ancient Weapons Were Created By The People Of The Great Kingdom

When speaking of the Ancient Weapons, fans know that they were created long ago during the Void Century or somewhere around that time. The Ancient Weapons are quite an interesting part of the story that remains mysterious in some aspects. The very first Ancient Weapon to have been introduced in One Piece was Pluton, which was first referenced in the Alabasta Arc. There, Crocodile was actively searching for this Ancient Weapon in an attempt to gain control over the entire world. Undoubtedly, if Crocodile had succeeded with his plan, he would actually have gone on to control the entire world. However, thankfully, Robin never gave him the true location of Pluton. It was mentioned that Pluton was a giant warship and that a single shot from it could vaporize an entire Island.

Its powers were so great that everyone feared it. Back then, the engineers of the ship worried that the weapons would one day fall into the wrong hands. At which point, a power that can match it must exist to stop it. – Iceberg on Pluton

This was clearly a very powerful weapon and it came into play once again in the Enies Lobby Arc, where the blueprints for the Pluton were being coveted by the World Government. Eventually, Franky ended up burning down these blueprints, while Nico Robin decided to side with the Straw Hat Pirates again and escape from the grasp of the Government.

At the same time, fans also found out bits about the other Ancient Weapons with time. After the 2-year timeskip, the Ancient Weapon Poseidon was introduced and this is where things started getting more interesting. Unlike Pluton, Ancient Weapon Poseidon was not a warship. Instead, Poseidon was revealed to be a living being. To be more specific, Poseidon was the Mermaid Princess, being born once after every few centuries. The last Mermaid Princess existed around 800 years ago, during the time of Joy Boy. After her death, the next Mermaid Princess is Shirahoshi, and she was finally born in the same era as Luffy. The Mermaid Princess has the power to control all the Sea Kings and essentially swallow up the entire world, which makes her one of the most dangerous individuals in the entire series.

Finally, this leaves fans with the last Ancient Weapon, which is Uranus. Clearly, the Uranus is in the possession of the World Government, given that by using this weapon, Lulusia was wiped from the face of the Earth. The power cell for the Uranus was a portion of the mother flame, which was stolen by none other than York and supplied to the World Government.

Why Joy Boy Wanted To Pass On The Ancient Weapons

Joy Boy’s Reasoning Behind Passing Down The Ancient Weapons

Given that all three Ancient Weapons have now been established in One Piece, fans have to wonder as to why they were created in the first place. Clearly, the Ancient Weapons are more than just weapons of mass destruction. While they are essentially weapons and will inevitably be used in war, it is a very well-outlined fact in the story that the Ancient Weapons are actually not necessarily meant for harm, as was implied was Vegapunk. According to him, the usage of the Ancient Weapons in the past caused the world to sink.

The world has already sunk enough and these weapons should not exist anymore.

Joy Boy wanted to preserve the weapons for the future!! Why would he do that for such dangerous things? Have we not sunk far enough?

However, what Vegapunk is unaware of is the fact that Joy Boy does not intend for the world to sink. In fact, he intended to fight the Alliance, which caused the world to sink, and took up residence atop the Red Line.

Joy Boy wants to pass on the Ancient Weapons to the Future Generation to ensure that freedom comes to all. It is by using these Ancient Weapons that the world will one day change completely. This is clearly implied by the statement made by Queen Otohime. She mentioned that the Ancient Weapons are quite dangerous, however, these powers, once utilized correctly, can lead to a great change. In the wrong hands, they can bring about utter destruction. This clearly implies that there are two ways of using the Ancient Weapons. One is the proper way, which can lead to an incredible change, the other way is what the World Government ended up doing and how the world ended up sinking in the first place.

The Right Way To Use The Ancient Weapons

The Ancient Weapons Can Be Used For Liberation And A Just World Order

There is certainly a right way to use the Ancient Weapons and one can say with absolute certainty that the answer to that will be revealed in the Final Saga of One Piece. For instance, the Ancient Weapon Poseidon has to be utilized correctly by Joy Boy. In the war to come, Ancient Weapon Poseidon can shift the tides of the battle in the favor of Joy Boy, and possibly even destroy the Red Line. This could allow for the seas to meet once again, and potentially even cause the world to de-flood.

As far as the Ancient Weapon Pluton goes, fans know that it is a massive warship. However, another living being, Momonosuke, has undoubtedly got some connection to Pluton. Momonosuke is the only one capable of communicating with Zunesha. It is possible that even though Pluton might be a vessel, the only one capable of controlling it would be Momonosuke, given that his abilities far surpass even Luffy, Roger, or Oden in regards to the Voice of All Things. He has been shown to be similar to Shirahoshi, which makes him very special. Being used by Momonosuke would certainly mean the weapon will never be used for large-scale destruction.

This leads one to believe that Ancient Weapon Uranus could also be linked to an individual, possibly Imu. If the Ancient Weapons have living beings attached to them, then morality comes into play. There is definitely a right and wrong way to use these weapons, and for Joy Boy, the goal would be to liberate the entire world using these weapons. Of course, he would like to destroy those who enslave the people and harm the innocent, and, above all, use these weapons to reshape the world as it once was. Those who caused the world to flood and destroyed the continents were those of the World Government and it is up to Joy Boy, who has now passed on the Ancient Weapons to the future generation, to see that these weapons are used in the correct manner and they bring about a great change, which causes the world to be liberated.
