According to a One Piece theory, Blackbeard’s ability to use multiple Devil Fruits in the series is somehow connected to his another mystery.
The eccentric villain of One Piece, Marshall D. Teach, or as fans know him, Blackbeard’s character has been a mystery for the longest time. The one shocking aspect of Blackbeard that confuses fans to this day is how he managed to possess the powers of two Devil Fruits and is currently out on the hunt for another one. While the general speculation is that he has multiple personalities that allow him to harness the power of multiple Devil Fruits, a One Piece theory proves otherwise.
According to the theory, Blackbeard’s ability to eat more than one Devil Fruit and survive is somehow connected to the deep, dark secret of his bloodline. His mysterious bloodline recently became a topic of discussion during the Egghead Island arc, and it might very well be connected to his unique One Piece trait.
Blackbeard Can Use Multiple Devil Fruits
While One Piece fans saw the introduction of Blackbeard during the Jaya arc, he was mentioned by Dalton during the Drum Island arc. From the beginning, he was posed as a mysterious character who was the exact opposite of Luffy, which was the first major hint that he would be one of the main antagonists of One Piece.
As the story moved forward, fans found out that Blackbeard had much more significance to the story than they realized. The one aspect that made him significant was his ability to use the power of more than one Devil Fruit. He is the only character within the series who is able to somehow extract the Devil Fruit from a dead body (Whitebeard), eat it, and gain its power.

He already had the power of Yami Yami no Mi, which he stole after murdering Thatch, but his hunger for the power of Devil Fruits didn’t end there. He entered the Marineford war, and when he got a chance, he took down Whitebeard and stole his Gura Gura no Mi too, making him the only One Piece character to have two Devil Fruits.
One Piece Theory Explains How Blackbeard Can Use Multiple Devil Fruits
According to a One Piece theory posted by @theonlyanimetheoriespage on Instagram, Blackbeard has some kind of connection with the ancient giants’ tribe in the series. This is reflected in the fact that the three skulls that are portrayed on Blackbeard’s Jolly Roger are similar to the ones that Oars and Little Oars Jr. had as a piece of accessories.

The theory states that Blackbeard’s special bloodline, which was mentioned by Saturn during the Egghead Island arc, is linked to the ancient giants’ tribe. And this special bloodline is the reason why Blackbeard is able to harness multiple Devil Fruits at once. His special bloodline gave him a unique body that allowed him to take control of two or maybe more Devil Fruits.
While this is certainly an explanation, fans will have to wait for Eiichiro Oda to bring Blackbeard back to the central narrative and reveal the mysteries about him. This is most likely going to happen soon, as One Piece is already in its final phase, and Blackbeard has a big role to play in the final war of the series.
